Our Story
Built Around a Passion for Horses
Lone Star Animal Hospital was founded by Dr. Francisco Alvarez with a singular focus: providing the highest level of equine sports medicine and veterinary care in the greater Houston area. After earning both his undergraduate and veterinary degrees from Texas A&M University and completing a specialized internship at a referral sports medicine hospital in Texas, Dr. Alvarez returned home to Montgomery County to build a practice that puts horses first.
Located at 14920 FM-2854 in Montgomery, Texas — the heart of horse country — Lone Star Animal Hospital is equipped to handle everything from routine wellness exams and dental care to advanced lameness workups, regenerative therapies, and pre-purchase evaluations for performance horses of every discipline.
In 2021, Dr. Alvarez was honored with the PSI Practitioner of the Year award, recognizing his dedication to excellence in equine veterinary medicine.

Our facility features a dedicated lameness evaluation pad, advanced imaging, and diagnostic ultrasound. Dr. Alvarez regularly attends ISELP courses to stay on the cutting edge of equine imaging and treatment.
